Project 1 - " Design Elements ": Welcome

Throughout this assignment, design elements can be learnt and they are dots, lines, shapes and forms. Not only learnt them, they needed to be used in the assignments and explored more about then. The transformation from dots to lines to shapes to form is really incredible and interesting, all of these can be explored during this assignment. Infographic manner of presentation board without any wordy paragraphs can be trained as well under the guidance and assistance of Mr Paul! Everyone’s outcomes are very unique and dope due to the amazing transformation.

Tasks

At the beginning of this assignment, I needed to find pictures of six spaces and define all the points on the pictures. Then connected them with lines but it’s not necessary to connect all, it’s depends on my design ideas.
One of them needed to be selected for the further exploration. It’s 2D time! I needed to sketch out the dots and lines then explore with planes. Researches, imagination and researches help me lots in this part. Next, I transformed 2D to 3D by using sketches before building mock-up and the actual model. The presentation board needed to be designed as well after building models. The base of the model must be in a5 size and maximum height is 15cm.

Progress

Week 1

After listening to the brief, I had a quick start with this assignment because I love building model. I searched six spaces and majority of them is futuristic design which is designed by Zaha Hadid and Frank Gehry. The reason that I chose them is futuristic design has unique and fluidity form. Hence, the design contains much edges. Then, I defined the dots from the pictures and connected them with lines. I connected them with different design which are overlapping triangles create a spiral pattern, connected with lines randomly, four edges shapes form a rigid pattern, longer lines create a hierarchy pattern from boundary to the middle, a complicated and complex pattern is formed by connecting the lines as much as possible and triangular shapes without overlapping create a curvy pattern which lead on the right side.

Week 2

I chose sixth picture and sketched them out on butter paper. Then, I got an inspiration which is peacock and imagined the design before sketching out again. Then I transformed my 2D sketch into 3D sketch. I started to build mock up by using satay sticks, glue tag and normal A4 paper.

Week 3

After building mock up, I realised some problems. The major problem is the unbalanced of the positive and negative space. Then, I resketch again for the model and explored it again. I built second mock-up before building the actual model. As a result the second mock up worked and I built my final model by using polystyrene board as base and pvc form board, satay stick, grey and black moulting board for the final model.

Week 4

All physical stuffs are already done and I started designing the board. I took pictures of my model at my backyard and balcony. Before sending to Mr Paul, my board was looked wordy. I changed them into more Infograph after receiving advises and suggestions from Mr Paul. Then, I submitted the assignment on time!

Reflection

The assignment is pretty fun and it’s my first time to build model. I’m bursting with joy and learnt much knowledge by exploring, researching and receiving advices from Mr Paul. Only one word for the assignment and it’s fun!!!
