Rio de Janeiro's setting between the mountains and the sea is so spectacular that UNESCO cited "the staggeringly beautiful location for one of the world's biggest cities" in naming Rio a World Heritage Site. Besides, actually Rio de Janeiro is distinguished into two parts which are the Asphalt and the Favelas. People who live in the Asphalt are named as " people of the Asphalt " while people who live in Favelas are called " people of the hill". Although both of them live closely intertwined throughout the city, but they live vastly different lives.
Favelas
A type of slum in Brazil
Favelas has experienced historical governmental neglect. The buildings arrangement looks like houses stacked on top of each others and most of the residents in Favelas has been facing poverty. Although there is much vicious drugs gangs in Favelas, but Favelas are designed with some beautiful murals or even some creative mechanism and other stuffs by the most peaceful, creative and resourceful people in Rio.
Asphalt
A developed city by the governments
Asphalt is the another world from the Favelas and it is taken well care and developed by the governments. Many tourist attractions are built in Asphalt such as the Giant Statue of Christ, the rock peak of Sugarloaf, Copacabana, Ipanema and so forth. Much people have mistaken that Rio de Janeiro is the capital of Brazil due to the well development in Asphalt and huge events were organised in Asphalt such as Rio 2016 Summer Olympics and 2014 FIFA World Cup Final.
Personal Opinions
After exploring to Rio de Janeiro, I hope that every country can always take care their citizens as whole by not separating races, rich and poverty, skin colours and others. All of us in the world are human and all of us are the same. We must be threaten equally without any gender discrimination, races bias and others. Although Favelas had produced creative cities, but why not make it more better with the help of the administration. I hope Rio de Janeiro can become as a whole in future!
